Electric Forklift Buying Guide: Capacity, Lift Height and Aisle
A practical checklist for choosing an electric forklift: rated capacity, load centre, lift height, aisle width and shift length.
Start with the load
Record the load weight, dimensions and load centre. A rated capacity applies at a stated load centre and lift height; a heavier load, a longer load centre or a higher lift reduces the permitted load, so always check the load chart of the specific model.
Then check the site
- Target lift height and mast type.
- Door width, aisle width and turning space.
- Floor condition, ramps, and indoor or outdoor use.
- Hours per shift, and the time and power available for charging.
